This is rich and flavorful, with notes of candied pineapple, glazed lemon, honeysuckle, white tea, salted caramel and nutty undertones. Full-bodied with mellow creaminess and attractive flinty minerality. Big, structured and complex with notes of toasted hazelnuts and cedar at the end. James Suckling
The Wine:
A nose of crystallized lemons, white flowers, white peach, citrus crème brulee, ginger and a sweet and salty puff pastry (Kouign-amann). The palate is a complex mixture of citrus/stone fruit with caramel and baking spice. A beautifully polished and lifted finish and certainly the most elegant Gemma to date.
"The Girls" are made with NO pressing, it takes two tons to yield one barrel, there is no inoculation on either primary and secondary fermentation with no nutrient additions, minimal use of SO2 and the use of an OXO rolling system for lees incorporation instead of stirring. As a result of this extremely reductive winemaking to protect these wines, they actually NEED air to open.
